Curitiba vai sediar a 11ª edição brasileira da Global Game Jam, um dos principais eventos de criação de jogos do mundo. A maratona de games é organizada desde 2010 pelo curso de Jogos Digitais da PUCPR e neste ano acontece entre os dias 31 de janeiro e 2 de fevereiro na própria universidade. O evento deve atrair mais de 550 participantes, que durante dois dias terão a oportunidade de criar, desenvolver ou modificar jogos já existentes de todos os tipos: digitais, de tabuleiro, com realidade virtual ou aumentada, aventuras de RPG, salas de escape e até esportes e gincanas. A Global Game Jam é realizada simultaneamente em mais de 100 países.
De acordo com o professor Bruno Campagnolo, coordenador do curso de Jogos Digitais da PUCPR e organizador do evento, a Global Game Jam Curitiba se destaca sempre pelo aspecto prático e pela grande produção de jogos, além de possibilitar que designers, programadores, professores e criadores de conteúdo desenvolvam jogos com foco em inovação e imersão.
Além de promover o evento, o curso prepara estudantes para atuar na indústria global de games. Durante a tarde de domingo (2), das 15h às 17h30, o evento ficará aberto gratuitamente ao público em geral.
